On April 8, 2024 join us to slow down, look up, and celebrate our solar system at a rare astronomical occurrence. This will be the last total solar eclipse (when the Moon occults the Sun from our vantage point on Earth) that is visible from the contiguous United States until 2044! New York City will observe 90 percent totality and, weather permitting, we’ll get to view this cosmic event together.

We will gather on the grounds of Brooklyn’s historic Green-Wood Cemetery for an afternoon of eclipse viewing with special-edition glasses and telescopes with solar filters, as well as music, hands-on activities and self-guided tours. Presented by Pioneer Works, Green-Wood, the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York, and the Simons Foundation. This afternoon will be one that comes around only once a few decades—don’t miss out!

Please Note: 

• The partial eclipse will begin at 2:10pm, reach maximum eclipse at 3:25pm, and end at 4:36pm.
• Special-edition eclipse viewing glasses will be available on a first come basis.
• Bring a blanket or something comfortable to sit on. 
• There is no onsite parking available. 
• The program will be adjusted depending on the weather, and any updates or changes will be shared on April 6th. 
• Use caution when viewing the solar eclipse. Do not look directly at the sun (even during an eclipse!), unless you are wearing the proper eye protection for viewing.
• This event is free but registration is recommended.
